Nice to meet you!

I’m Darren.

I’m an engineer.

A father.

A leader.

A speaker.

But I almost wasn’t.

When I was 18 I suffered a catastrophic motor vehicle collision and was air lifted from the site of my crash. As I emerged from the resulting coma, they told me I was lucky to be alive.

But I didn’t feel lucky. My recovery was long and challenging. I felt lost and isolated. I had to re-learn everything from the beginning.

But I’m still here.

What I Learned From my Deathbed

I learned how to rely on my strengths to survive. I found my purpose:

When facing new challenges and the unknown, I leaned into what I already knew – roadmapping and reverse-engineering my way to walking again. I learned to apply systems thinking to reframe challenges and shift perspective. I gave myself tools to build resilience. I got through the hardest period of my life by leaning on my strengths and putting them to work for me. I realized that if I could do this, then you can too.

Are you interested in learning how to apply my methods?

Darren's presentations on risk taking and personal accountability, and Emotional Intelligence (EQ) weren’t just informative—they were transformative. Darren’s storytelling stands out as some of the best I’ve seen in my career.

What makes Darren’s style so powerful is his ability to present in a way that is engaging, authentic, and vulnerable. He doesn’t just share content—he shares experience. By tying his message to personal stories, he elevates the material to a level that resonates deeply with his audience.

As someone who considers themselves a strong facilitator and storyteller, I still walked away having learned a great deal from Darren.

I had the opportunity to attend Darren's sessions, and they truly stood out.

The content was thoughtfully designed, deeply authentic, and genuinely engaging. What resonated most was how Darren shared reflections on his own growth journey - his openness and vulnerability made the material feel relatable and inspiring. It reminded me that personal development is always within reach, no matter where we start. The session wasn't just theoretical; it offered practical tools and insights that I've already begun applying in my work. Darren's ability to spark meaningful reflection while maintaining a high-energy, inclusive atmosphere made the experience both impactful and memorable.

Stories like Darren's help me reflect more, live more purposefully, and be more intentional with my own life, time, and decisions, and to be grateful for everything - including the hard times, because those can be where we learn the most.

It's beautiful to see that after such a traumatic accident and all it has taken to recover, Darren chose to share the experience and provide insight into the importance of decision-making and risk-taking - it was impactful and transformational.

Darren’s personal story about how he turned difficult feedback into a gift really stuck with me.

The facts and observations he gathered, combined with the habit-forming tools he developed, highlighted that even if we don’t have high emotional intelligence, we can still work toward improvement.

Applying an engineering approach in a non-traditional way is a powerful method for using your strengths to grow.

I walked away with a new lens through which to view feedback—not as a victim, but as a player. It’s a good reminder to frame our stories around opportunity rather than negativity
